Women's Services
Around one in six couples experience delay or difficulty in conceiving. Following investigation of the underlying causes, by either a family doctor or consultant specialist, a range of fertility treatments may provide a solution to the barriers of conception. For instance where abnormal hormone production results in either ovulation disruption in women or sperm production in men, a course of fertility drugs may be appropriate. At the other end of the treatment spectrum are invitro fertilisation (IVF) and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) which involve more invasive procedures but which frequently result in pregnancy.
